Football has this rare ability to bring people, stories, and generations together around the same ground. Through Echoing Stories, we wanted to look at everything that exists around the game — the spaces it inhabits and the communities it brings together.
With photographers based in Paris, Marseille, and New York, the images presented here look at football as it is lived in the city, in the public spaces where people meet to play, gather, and spend time together. Between France and the United States, football appears as a common language — one that carries memory, identity, and belonging.
In these images, the body remains central — in presence, in pause, and in play. Hands gripping the ball, bodies adapting to the structures around them, traces left on the ground or painted on walls. These details reveal how football creates moments of connection, but also how communities claim space, leave their marks, and build a sense of belonging through the game.
Echoing Stories is an ongoing curatorial project between France and the United States, bringing together documentary photographers whose work explores local communities, shared histories, and everyday realities.
